Struggling with sensitive skin can be frustrating. Beauty Barn’s content manager, Akang Longchar who also has very sensitive skin, shares her review of the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream in this post.
I’ve never really had problems with my skin. Not to brag, but I was the lucky few who escaped the wrath of teenage acne. Which is why I never followed a consistent skincare routine or paid much attention to products I should be using. By the time I turned 30, I slowly felt changes in my skin. It looked the same but it did not feel the same.
It took me another couple of years to fully comprehend what was happening to my skin. I was prone to redness, irritation and dry patches, especially on my cheeks. When using potent skincare ingredients, my skin would sting or become red and patchy. This is when I realised I was experiencing a breakdown in my skin barrier.
What is the skin barrier?
To know what causes the skin to become so sensitive, we need to understand what the skin barrier is.
Lipids make up the skin barrier, which forms the skin’s outermost layers, shielding skin against external aggressors. It’s also known as the moisture barrier since it helps retain moisture, preventing your skin from drying out. Often, environmental stressors like dry heat, pollution, and excessive sun exposure damage the skin’s integrity. It’s the weakness of this shield that is the underlying cause of sensitive skin.
A thin, weak or damaged skin barrier allows irritants to penetrate into your skin and prevent it from functioning properly. This leads to dry, red skin.
Skin barrier repair and maintenance is vital to overall skin health. A healthy skin barrier is essential to improve skin’s appearance and keep it looking healthy and glowing.
My Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream Experience
I started focusing on building a new skincare routine which comprised of a lot of hydrating products and ingredients like ceramides to help fix my damaged barrier. The Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream was an addition to this routine.
This cream helps calm and strengthen skin barrier in extremely sensitive skin. Its main function is to repair skin damage and irritation.
This product caught my eye when I read testimonials from clients who suffer from severe skin conditions such as acne, eczema, rosacea, hypersensitivity and more! Not to forget, it also works wonders as a recovery cream to treat acne.
How I Used It
I use the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream as a moisturizer and also as a spot treatment for when I have the following concerns: to repair my skin barrier and also reduce redness from dryness and sensitivity.
This product is also perfect to use after a long day out in the sun. Where I live, the heat is unbearable and my cheeks tend to redden and flush easily, and using this cream has a significant difference. Upon use, it immediately gives a very cooling and calming effect on my skin.
I also use the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream to soothe my skin when I’m trying out a new skincare product. Because of the sensitivity, skincare products easily tend to aggravate my skin since many of them do not suit my skin. I have to stay away from products which have fragrances or essential oils.
Sometimes, I also use it as a sleeping mask as an extra indulgent step to repair and rejuvenate my skin.
The Texture
On application, the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream has a silky texture and glides very smoothly on the skin. It is a lightweight cream which has a very cooling effect. It immediately gives a feeling of hydration to the skin.
The Ingredients
Let me break down the main ingredients in the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream formulation. It contains two ingredients that effectively soothe the skin. First is Guaiazulene, a natural component extracted from Chamomile Oil with natural calming effects. This is where the cream gets its blue colour from.
And the second main ingredient is Centella Asiatica that hydrates the skin and relieves redness. It is popular for its wound healing properties.
The Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream also contains Ceramides, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Hyaluronic Acid and many others. It is free of alcohol, fragrance, mineral oil, and other common irritants.
My Final Thoughts:
I’m still trying to figure out the right skincare routine for my skin. I feel like it’s going to take a while to undo all the damage and skin ignoring I’ve done for so many years. Sounds fair enough! In the meantime, the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is always at my dresser, ready to bail me out in case something overwhelms or stresses my skin or I end up using a product not meant for me.
In the meantime, do you have a story to share about your journey with sensitive skin or how about some of your favourite skincare products for sensitive or damaged skin barrier skin?

I love how this blue cream makes my skin feel. I have oily skin and it’s so good for calming down when my skin is irritated and on the verge of a breakout. This works like crazy
