10-Step Korean Skincare Routine For Glowing Skin

Everyone wants to know all about the 10-Step Korean Skincare routine! How about we customize one for glowing skin results? Read on to find out exactly how.

Korean Skincare is trending all over the world and it’s an obsession of having a glowing and healthy skin. But achieving this is not a cakewalk and one has to follow to lot of steps.

Basically, Korean skin care is all about using gentle & barrier repairing products in an extensive way. It focuses on prevention and protection rather than the use of products to undo damage.

Not only does this type of routine often produce effective and consistent results, but it also contributes to people respecting their skin and taking a little extra “me time.” While many people begin with a 10-step routine, you can adjust up or down, depending on your needs or preference.

We know it’s very complex and you may think, what to start with? Should I double cleanse? Does it suit oily skin? What products to choose? Don’t worry! I have curated an easy 10-step Korean Skincare Routine for Glowing Skin, have a look.

STEP 1: OIL BASED CLEANSER

The most popular Korean skincare trend is double cleansing, it involves cleansing your face with two cleansers. This technique not only helps remove impurities and grime from your skin; it does so very gently.
Massage an oil-based cleanser in circular motions for 30 seconds, emulsify it with some water and massage again. Now rinse it with plain water.
I like to use Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil for this step, it removes the water proof makeup and sunscreen in seconds without any tugging and pulling of skin.

STEP 2: WATER-BASED CLEANSER

Use a non-stripping and PH Balanced face wash as a second step to make sure that your skin is all clear. Korean Skincare focuses on PH balanced & non stripping face wash in order to get a cleansed yet hydrated skin.
I am currently using the Cosrx Low PH Good Morning Face Wash, it is really gentle and provides me a clean canvas to work on. I like to take a pea sized amount and massage it for 60 seconds and that’s the way you should be doing.

STEP 3: EXFOLIANT

Now comes my most favorite part, ‘Chemical Exfoliation’. It is a gentle way to achieve a smoother looking skin Moreover it helps with pigmentation, scarring, blackheads & whiteheads.

I am very flexible with my chemical exfoliators. I love to use COSRX Blackhead Power Liquid i.e. BHA when my skin is acting up and troubling me with acne or blackheads, Otherwise, my cult favorite is By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Prep Water that sloughs off the dead skin & gives me the most amazing glow. It further helps with pigmentation or acne scars.
Take 3-4 drops on a cotton pad or your palm (cotton pad is recommend for beginners & sensitive skin) and swipe it all over face and neck, it really works magic. Once or twice a week at night is good enough. If you have sensitive skin, it’s beneficial to exfoliate only once a week.

STEP 4: TONER

Toners help in prepping up the skin before getting into heavy skincare products. Think of your skin as a sponge, Wet sponge absorbs more water. Likewise, your skincare penetrates better when the skin is damp. There are many barrier repairing toners available on our site that I love to use before jumping into thicker products like the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner, I’m from Rice Toner and so on. The list is never ending, you got to pick one accordingly.

STEP 5: ESSENCE

Essence is light weight, packed with anti-ageing, hydrating and complexion enhancing ingredients. They are more potent and helps on targeting the skin concerns. It’s not mandatory to use an essence, I usually alternate between a serum or an essence at night.
The one that I recommend is I’m from Mugwort Essence and Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Power Mucin Essence, it literally makes my skin baby soft and repairs my skin for better. I have been using these from quite a long time and I would recommend these to everyone.

STEP 6: SERUM

Serums are usually packed with powerhouse ingredients to target a particular skin concern. I believe serums are game changers and honestly, I never stick to a single serum, I alternate between many depending on my skin health/ behavior.
I use a Vitamin C serum in my Am routine followed by a sunscreen on a daily basis, and if you follow me on Instagram, you might know that My Holy Grail is Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Drops.
At night, I either go for an anti-ageing serum like I’M from Rice Serum or I use a basic hydrating/calming serum like Cosrx Centella Aqua Soothing Serum when my skin is feeling irritated or dull.

STEP 7: SHEET MASK

Sheet masks are filled with an essence and a prolonged contact with the skin transfers the needed nutrients and moisture to the skin. It helps with dry and dehydrated skin although there are many targeted sheet masks available in the market but the key role is to hydrate the skin deeply.
Take out the sheet mask, put it on your face for 10-15 minutes and then remove it. I like to squeeze the remaining essence out from the sheet and apply it on hands and neck to avoid any wastage. My favorite is the Axis-Y 61% Mugwort Green Vital Energy Complex Sheet Mask.

STEP 8: EYE CREAM

Skin around the eyes is the thinnest and the most sensitive so it needs an utmost care. Although I have personally experienced that not every eye cream works for dark circles but they do provide a nourishment and helps with fine lines or wrinkles. Just take out a little eye cream and Massage it around your eyes using your Ring finger to eliminate any excess pressure. If you are looking for a good eye cream, I would ask you to try the COSRX Advanced Snail Peptide Eye Cream or the COSRX Advanced Snail Hydrogel Eye Patch.

STEP 9: MOISTURIZER

A skincare routine is incomplete without a moisturizer as it seals everything into the skin and hydrates it. You should introduce a moisturizer into your skincare routine at the earliest, even if your skin is oily
The thumb rule is to change your moisturizer according to the weather, I love to use thicker creams in winters like the COSRX Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream and a gel-based moisturizers like the I’m from Vitamin Tree Water Gelin summers when I don’t want to look like a grease ball.

STEP 10: SUNSCREEN

Wearing sunscreen is one of the best and easiest ways to protect your skin’s appearance and health at any age. Used regularly, sunscreen helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer and premature ageing and as we all know, Protection is better than cure any day.
Also, follow the ‘three finger rule’ to apply a sunscreen just to make sure that your skin is fully protected and reapply it after two-three hours before stepping out in sun. I am currently using Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Sun Cream and I don’t think I can do without it now; it leaves no white cast and hydrates my skin too.

The Bottomline

So, this is my 10 Step Korean Skincare Routine and it delivers tremendous results, all you need is consistency and the right products according to your skin concern(s). The Korean skincare philosophy is, about not doing harm to our skin. It’s about long-term results, gentle layering steps, a huge focus on hydration, respecting the skin barrier and protecting the skin. So, don’t worry and just focus on self-care because that’s what Korean Skincare is all about. Love your Skin, pamper your skin and most of all, invest time in your skin!
